Development Roadmap

This is a rough list of what’s planned in terms of features for the next few versions of Actions for Obsidian. My internal todo list is longer than this, mind.

Schedules and feature lists are subject to change, as is life. If you want to purchase Actions for Obsidian, please do so on the basis of its current state, not its planned feature set.

:white_check_mark: 1.2

Released in July 2023: Actions for Obsidian 1.2.0 (macOS & iOS)

  • Add OmniSearch support
  • Enhance “Append” & “Prepend” actions
    • optional note creation
    • appending/ prepending below headlines
  • Enhance “Insert Text At Placeholder” actions
    • make it work with front matter-type placeholders
  • Add support for applying templates to new notes on creation
  • Overhaul macOS UI to bring it more in line with the iOS client

:white_check_mark: 1.3

Released in September 2023: Actions for Obsidian 1.3.0 (macOS & iOS)

  • Add support for Periodic Notes
  • Add support for triggering Obsidian commands
  • Improve vault management

:white_check_mark: 1.4

Released in November 2023. Release 1.4.0 (macOS & iOS)

:white_check_mark: 1.5 2024.1

Released in February 2024. Release 2024.1 (macOS & iOS)

  • Support for saving images & files to a vault
  • Getting the focussed/active note
  • Getting notes by name (not file path)

2024.2

  • Support for targeting notes by UUID/ custom internal ID (i.e., by a note’s Properties key)
  • I’ll look into getting Obsidian state into Shortcuts (e.g., is Obsidian currently syncing)
  • Quality of life improvements
  • Localization

Really looking forward to 1.3 – Periodic Notes support and support for triggering commands are really big moves in the right direction. This is obviously a labour of love. Thank you @czottmann

Thanks & welcome, @pacer! Yes, it is — I really get a lot out of building software that both scratches my own itches and helps others get their stuff done faster/ easier. I think I could never build a good game because even though I enjoy games immensely, they don’t hit the same spot for me.

Excited for this release!
